Art as a Social Transformation: Bridging the Boundaries Between Us
June 06, 2009 - Littleglobe artists and community participants from arts and community capacity projects including Cuba High School, Common Ground Santa Fe ensemble and TOC (Torreon, Ojo Encino, Cuba) ensemble performed at The Lensic in Santa Fe, NM. The evening included collaborative artistic works, conversations, film, music, and spoken word. 16th Annual Jemez Arts & Crafts Show
May 22, 2009 - This event gathered family, friends, and art admirers deep in the Jemez mountains for a fun filled Memorial weekend. The beautiful Jemez Red Rocks produced an extraordinary backdrop for the many artisans who attended. I found interesting art pieces and shared stories with artisans about their handcrafted pieces. Some artisans I noted were Marcella Yeppa, Jemez Pueblo, who produced unique swirl melon pottery. Arlene Aguilar, Santa Ana Pueblo, showcasing large stone inlays emphasizing texture. Delvin Toya, Jemez Pueblo, who created rare powwow drums for sale and notably used by 2004 Grammy Award winners Black Eagle.

Each August, the historic city of Santa Fe, NM becomes the Santa Fe Indian Market, enveloping the town's central Plaza and surrounding streets. In addition, hundreds of gallery openings, art shows and related events take place during the weekend of Indian Market and during the two weeks immediately preceding it. Indian art collectors and artists from around the world make the pilgrimage to Santa Fe -- whether they intend to buy or not. The Southwestern Association for Indian Arts (SWAIA) sponsors the event, which is estimated to bring more than 80,000 people and over $100 million in revenues to the state and region.
